Cultural sensitivity diversity jobs are getting more attention lately. Employers have long felt the pressure to adapt their work force to match the cultural population of the communities in which their business operates. Instead of continuing to fight the winds of change, however, many companies, both large and small, are embracing them. Gone are the days where high profile jobs, dominated by one culture.
The Unites States is adapting its work force to match the melting pot that is this great country. Hispanics, Asians, African Americans and women are now forces to be reckoned with. Pay rates are increasing for these and other minority groups, and jobs that were once reserved for a white male, is now up for grabs to the most qualified person, no matter what his or her cultural background may be.
It is one thing to be diverse when it comes to different cultures in the workplace, it is quite another to be sensitive to that diversity. You may put to groups to work in the same building, but that does not mean they are going to play nice. Change takes time and differences have to be embraced. One has to be sensitive to the difference of other cultures and respect their right to live and work in this country. People do not quickly develop this sensitivity all on their own. It takes the right environment to foster the understanding that we need for different cultures to come together, while still marinating their cultural identity.
Cultural sensitivity diversity jobs are found where diversity is not the only goal. Affirmative action in itself is a baby step to a greater goal. It only requires that a company match the workforce make-up to the cultural make-up of the community. It does not make a company create an environment that fosters unity between the cultures. Companies have to be proactive and make that move of their own volition, and they are doing just that.
Motivated by employees who want a to work in a non-hostile environment, by people who think that different cultures can co-exist and even work together, American companies are moving towards education, teaching individuals how to appreciate the diversity that is around them.
There are training seminars held all around the country where businesses can send their employees to learn how to motivate their employees to become more sensitive to other cultures. They train human resources and other company staff members who then go back to their place of work and pass on the lessons learned at the seminars. Through such trainings and processes, which stem from them, a new work place is emerging.
No longer is it acceptable to mutter racial slurs to a co-worker, or belittle a fellow employee’s beliefs or culture. Tolerance to such behavior is diminished and expectations of integrity are rising. Diversity is no longer enough, now we are seeing sensitivity to diversity.
