Find Automotive Dealer Jobs
|
Automotive dealer jobs are not just about the sales positions at a dealership. In fact, an automotive dealer job is more likely to be a position where you work for an auto dealer in some other capacity. These jobs include sales positions, maintenance work, banker positions, general manager, sales manager, technician, mechanic, service repair, body shop, administration, and clerical positions. You will find that to run a dealership you have to have several different sections to the dealership to make it a success.
First, the sales, sales manager, and general sales manager are the individuals anyone buying a car will meet. These are the people who sell the cars for as best a price as they can possibly get. In other words, they are trying to sell the car for the tag on the car. The sales person you are first likely to meet or get a position as will be the one doing most of the sales. They will deal with more customers. They will also be getting more in commissions than a base salary.
Before an individual can become a sales manager, they have to work up to that position. A sales manager is going to sell automobiles as well as manager the sales team. They will also come in as a second person on a difficult sale. For instance, a sales person will have to check with a sales manager about accepting a lower offer on a car. The general sales manager is going to have more administrative duties and not sell as much, but they are the highest authority in the sales department.
The technicians and mechanics are the ones looking at the vehicles. They will be doing the inspections on trade ins, making sure the vehicles for sale have been looked over, and fix any problems from cars brought in. To have a position as a mechanic you have to have a degree or a trade diploma from at least a community college. As with any department there are going to be several levels of positions from base mechanic up to a manager of the department. The body shop is also going to need mechanics that will work on painting, replacing cosmetic car parts, and the like in order to make the car look better.
The administration department is going to be full of clerical jobs and often the banker of the dealership. They are going to be the ones saying that a car can be sold to a person and what the payments will be. In other word, they are the financial officers. Other positions are going to be filling paperwork, making sure payments are processed, and claims are taken care of. They are the ones that see to the business side of the dealership.
Automotive dealer jobs may be plentiful depending on the economy at the time. Some companies are struggling right now to get cars sold and factories have been closing down due to a lack of production. The industry is seeing a hit, but of course, that can change as the job market changes and an increase on demand for newer vehicles becomes apparent. Even now environmentally friendly cars are being produced, and the cost for making them is beginning to lower. Therefore, the industry may not be too favorable for some positions in automotive dealer jobs, but you will find that mechanics, clerical positions, and administration jobs are still available. Even sales positions may become available as others move on from lack of commissions opening an avenue for a new person.
